Just a short video of Thicket crawling through a thicket of barberry that she had flushed a grouse from.

Trust

Thicket and Sunny sharing a bit of sweet stock. Thicket has bonded with Sunny and has no fear of the old mare. For her part Sunny has been around dogs her entire life of 31 years and accepts them as part of her "herd".

Just a Little Walk with Thicket

The weather warmer up to 20 couple degrees so Thicket and I took a walk around the Back40.
To my surprise she found a grouse and pointed for a few seconds, until it got the best of her and she pushed in for the flush. In my hurry to reach her before she broke I didn't get a pic of her point.

She hunted nicely for me. Tackling the brush and ranging out 100 yards yet keeping track of me without having to be called.

Something caught her attention here, but nothing was flushed.
Had hoped to be looking for woodcock by the last of February but the extended forecast looks like its going to stay cold for several weeks yet. Oh well, all good things comes to those who wait :) so guess I'll just have to wait for the weather and the woodcock.

Come on Honey, Let Me Drive

This is what I get for marrying a farm girl.
The wife giving the JD dozer a test run.

Look Out Mother Nature

I've been looking for a small dozer for the past year to combat the multiflora rose, barberry and greenbrier that are trying to take over my Back 40. I've looked at a couple dozers that had been "rode hard and put away wet" and then just the other day this little beauty fell into my lap.

It's a John Deere 1010, the smallest dozer JD made between 1960-1965. She's been shed kept all her life and has had a new undercarriage, carburetor, radiator, and hoses installed and had the lift cylinders rebuilt. Since I know nothing about dozers I had my wife's nephew, who has an excavating business look her over and pronounced her it very good condition. With her I'll be able create more room for my heirloom apple trees.

All I have to do now is learn how to drive her :).

Hoping Phil the Groundhog got it Wrong

Saw a flock of 12 to 15 robins while on my walk in the Back 40 this afternoon. They were feeding on greenbrier berries.

With robins in the area can the woodcock be far behind???
