A Welcomed Sight

I saw this fella crossing the old lane that leads to the Back40 orchard.




This is the first Box Turtle I've seen in years here on the homestead.  A friend who is into reptiles said it was a male. I was just happy to see it slowly plodding across the lane going about it's daily business.

Wonderful, gentle creatures. As a kid, my brothers and I built a pen, would feed them for a couple of weeks and release them deep into the woods. My daughter to this day will stop her car and take them off the road and release them out of harm's way. They reportedly can live a 100 years. Gil

yes they are special creatures that always bring a smile to my face when I see one.
